Admission Policy and Aim of Graduate School

◆ Educational objective

■ Educational policy

Graduate School of Education, Yamaguchi University was established under the basic policy in order to improve the quality of teachers who play important roles in pre-school, primary and secondary school education and to train teachers who have theoretical underpinnings and applied skills, and educate and do research in educational practice.

We have responded appropriately to educational agenda raised by schools and to information to educational needs of the local society, and reflected them into our educational and academic activities. By so doing, we have been undertaken important roles to provide recurrent education for in-service teachers in Yamaguchi Prefecture as an educational center of the region as well as to train teachers of good quality.

Graduate School of Education also contributes to foster educators in a broader sense based on the policy of our undergraduate education that aims to develop human resources who have a good understanding of humanity and education, and contribute to educational and cultural activities of the local society. We try to improve our instruction system and learning environment for students to support individual’s motivation for self-improvement so that we can enrich our policy and make it more profound.

As of November 2001, the principle and targets of the Graduate School of Education are set as follows in order to have relevancy to our undergraduate education.

  1. We contribute to enrich the educational function of the local society as a center of teacher and educator in a broader sense training.
  2. We contribute to the development and collaboration of sciences and arts as a center of educational and cultural research.
  3. We open our educational resources to the local society as a center of the interaction among science, education and culture.

■ Educational targets

We pursue the following targets.

  1. We promote the cultivation of teachers and educators who have a good understanding of humanity and education, and ability to solve problems.
  2. We improve our instruction system and learning environment that support individual’s motivation for self-improvement.
  3. We discover educational needs of the local society and develop educational programs to enrich and promote research and instruction.

◆ Action plan

We address our action plan to achieve above-mentioned educational targets.

■ To accomplish our target-1

  1. We review and develop our educational curricula that contribute to community-based pre- and in-service teacher training in collaboration with schools.
  2. We attach importance to real-life experience and clinical experience, construct educational theories and foster the practical ability.
  3. We develop effective curricula to foster the students’ ability to work actively on current educational problems.

■ To accomplish our target-2

  1. We actively accept various students, arouse their motivations for self-learning and promote the cultivation of teachers and educators in broader sense who have abilities to solve problems.
  2. We establish a teaching system that matches the abilities and the motivations of individual graduate students.

■ To accomplish our target-3

  1. We improve students’ practical ability through practical training in our attached schools.
  2. We promote research works on the establishment and management of lifelong learning system in the local society.
  3. We promote research and practical works on school maladjustment such as absence from school and bullying and support for the adjustment of handicapped children in the local society.
