Cultivation of human resources through the integration of arts and sciences

■ Our educational resources

The principle of Yamaguchi University is to be “a place of wisdom” where possibilities and dreams are “Discovered, Nourished, and Realized” through new experience, encounter and the development of individuality. By so doing, the university aspires to cultivate sophisticated and professionalized human resources.

Based on the principle, faculty of Education, has a system that enable staff, who have a wide range of expertise, such as natural sciences, humanities, social sciences, arts, health sciences and informatics to do research and provide education in various field. This system cultivates and fills up the students’ desire for knowledge and develops their various individualities.

Through the inter-action between academic staff who have a wide range of expertise and students who have a wide range of intellectual appetite, the faculty promotes the human resources development with its key concept of “people-driven education” and ”education in home, in school and in society and any other place.”

■ Education policy

Our education policy consists of two viewpoints: Human and Education.

  1. Training teachers of good quality
    We train teachers who acquire a broad range of general knowledge and advanced expertise of education at school, home and in the local community.
  2. Cultivation of human resources to promote education and culture
    We train experts and leaders who can response to their local education, culture and health in contemporary society where internationalization, informatization and lifelong education are being promoted.

■ Educational targets

We pursue the following targets under our education policy.

  1. We prepare to receive students of various abilities and characteristics depending on the needs of education today.
  2. We develop our contents and methods of education to foster practical ability of students in their respective programs, and check and improve our original curricula.
  3. We improve the quality of educational program to cultivate human resources who have interest in and the understanding of human beings and education.
  4. We provide careful supervision based on students’ individuality and prepare support system for their learning and employment.
  5. We find out educational needs in the local society, develop educational programs for them, and enrich education in our faculty.

◆ Action plan

We address our action plan to achieve above-mentioned educational targets.

■ To accomplish our target-1

  1. We prepare to receive students with various needs.
  2. We promote the publication of research and educational outcomes of our staff.
  3. We develop an entrance examination system that watches the characteristics of respective programs.

■ To accomplish our target-2

  1. We improve the contents and methods of our teaching and promote to offer subjects that encourage cooperation and integration among programs.
  2. We provide seminars and practical training to reinforce experiential learning.
  3. We increase opportunities for students to improve their practical teaching activity by teaching practice in Integrated Center for Educational Research and Training and attached schools and by cooperation with local companies and schools.

■ To accomplish our target-3

  1. We develop self-inspection and self-evaluation activities.
  2. We introduce a system of evaluation by students and utilize its results to improve our teaching.
  3. We also develop an evaluation system by graduates and outsiders.

■ To accomplish our target-4

  1. We improve our educational environment and the system of close supervision in respective programs.
  2. We improve the physical and human environment of the system of information gathering to update former students’ employment situation and of supporting for current students’ employment.

■ To accomplish our target-5

  1. We promote collaborative research with institutions and organizations of the local society.
  2. We provide opportunities for students to have practical instructions by school teachers.
